Student Nutrition Services

Culinary staff adding milk cartons to lunch area

At San José Unified, we believe student nutrition is a key component of a well-rounded education. We constantly strive to meet the nutritional needs of our students while ensuring our schools promote a healthy and active learning environment.

Complimentary Breakfast and Lunch for All Students

All students are eligible to receive one complimentary breakfast and lunch every school day.  We ask families to complete the Household Income form as part of the beginning of the year packet for students because it helps ensure that families and the district receive all the benefits to which they are entitled.  If your family falls within specific income levels, you may qualify for prioritization for some San José Unified programs.  We will send you a letter confirming your status, which may also be used to qualify for discounts or special pricing for services from outside vendors.

Families are also welcome to complete the federal Free and Reduced Price Meal Application which may increase our reimbursement rates from the National School Lunch/School Breakfast programs.

Menus

Menus are published to the district and school websites at the beginning of each month. Please view for the daily selections.

Summer Meal Program

From June 3-28, 2024, we will provide breakfast and lunch at no cost to all students enrolled in a summer learning program with San José Unified.  We will also provide a free breakfast and/or lunch to students and community members under age 18. There is no meal service on June 19. You can find details on the meal program schedule and locations below:

Special Meal Accommodations

In accordance with USDA regulations, substitutions or modifications in school meals are required for children whose disabilities restrict their diets. A child with a disability must be provided food substitutions when that need is supported by a signed form from a licensed physician.
